*STUDENTS MUST HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE AND BE 14 YEARS OR OLDER TO PARTICIPATE.*
~please note: a one-day workshop will not qualify you for the skill level in the classes below~
The terms "experienced beginner", "advanced beginner", and "intermediate" are subjective and tend to change with our evolving student body. All of the classes below are for experienced students only. If you are joining us with experience from a different studio, we highly recommend working one-on-one with an instructor before requesting to be in a class. This is to ensure that you are placed in the appropriate class for your skill level when a spot opens up.
There are no online sign-ups for these classes, instead we ask that you email us. Requests are first come first servedwith priority given to students that were signed up for the previous session. Although we wish we could accommodate everyone, these classes often fill quickly with returning students. If you miss out, reach out to us about private lessons! Please be patient with our slow response time after classes are announced as we let the requests come in before getting back to everyone.
Here is what we have for our experienced students...
"COLORFUL CUPS" w/ Kristin Imre MONDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm LEVEL: EXPERIENCED BEGINNER STARTS January 12th COST: $725 This class will combine the joys of playing with color and the rigors of perfecting a cup setup. We will work on various frit applications: from chunky to fine frits, we will twist, make ombres, and stripes—horizontal and vertical. We will keep our shapes simple so we can focus on the technique and hand skills it takes to master them while still making colorful and interesting pieces.
"SHAPES: SIMPLE AND STRANGE" w/ Emery Wenger TUESDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm LEVEL: ADVANCED BEGINNER STARTS January 13th COST: $725 After a review on the importance of the bubble set up, heat distribution & body mechanics, we will work on troubleshooting the steps it takes to achieve various new shapes. Ranging from angular shapes like cones, to the all-curving hyperboloid and snowmen, the touch of the tool will be different for each and we will really concentrate on cause and effect when touching the glass so we can make our shapes with intention and precision.
"NOT YOUR MOTHER'S WINE GLASS" w/ Zach Herrmann WEDNESDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE STARTS January 14th COST: $725 This alternative stemware class will be less about making the perfect foot or vessel and more about being inventive! Everything we make will have a foot whether it be blown, trailed on, or solid. We will take a look at how glass makers have historically made various types of feet and stems and then think outside the box to come up with a few new ideas of our own. This class will be fun for anyone who has a had a little experience making stemware and might want to bring in a more sculptural element to their vessel making.
"ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE" w/ DJ Benyosef THURSDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE/ ADVANCED STARTS January 15th COST: $610 This class is a great opportunity to gain a little independence and confidence in the hot shop. What you make will be completely up to you and you will have access to all of the NOCA tools and color. Whether your goal is to work on a project that you have had in mind or if you are hoping to eventually rent unmonitored in the shop, this class will allow you the freedom to explore. There won't be any new instruction, but you will have an excellent "coach" available to you all evening answering questions and helping you through the blow slot. This class is a great way to fast track being approved to rent the shop.
