*STUDENTS MUST BE 14 YEARS OR OLDER TO PARTICIPATE.*
Here is what we have for our experienced students...
~please note that a one-day workshop will not qualify you for the skill level needed for the classes below~
The terms "experienced beginner", "advanced beginner", and "intermediate/ advanced" are subjective and tend to change with our evolving student body. All of the classes below are for experienced students only. If you are joining us with experience from a different studio we highly recommend working one on one with an instructor before requesting to be in a class. This is to ensure that you are placed in the appropriate class for your skill level when a spot opens up.
There are no online sign ups for these classes, instead we ask that you email us. Requests are first come first servewith priority given to students that were signed up for the previous session. Although we wish we could accommodate everyone, these classes often fill quickly with returning students. If you miss out, reach out to us about private lessons! Please be patient with our slow response time after classes are announced as we let the requests come in before getting back to everyone.
"FRIT FANTASY" w/ Greg Wright MONDAYS 6:30-9:30pm: LEVEL: EXPERIENCED BEGINNER STARTS MARCH 31st (6 WEEKS) COST: $690 This class will be a wonderful intro/ refresher into the world of colorful glass. Using primarily frit (crushed colored glass) we will learn proper technique on how to apply it to our glass and explore various acheivable looks; from homogeneous to stripy to spotty. By sticking with simple shapes each week we can focus on these color applications while simulteneously practicing the basics of gathering, marvering, blocking and putting in a jackline. This is a great class for folks fresh out of a 6 week beginner class or for our more experienced beginners who want to keep working on solidifying these fundamental skills.
"TRASH TO TREASURE" w/ Kristin Imre TUESDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm: LEVEL: ADVANCED BEGINNER STARTS: APRIL 1st (6 WEEKS) COST: $695 We ran this class a while back and it was a huge hit! This is our chance to take advantage of some of the hidden treasures of the NOCA tool room. Learn how to make your glass even more interesting with the use of colorful shards, stringers, cane, murrine, chunky frit, and much more. This class will be great for the novice looking to experiment with color while still building their foundational skills!
"PARKOUR!" w/ Andrew Iannazzi WEDNESDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm: LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE STARTS APRIL 2nd (6 WEEKS) COST: $695 Parkour is a discipline or sport in which participants attempt to get from one point to another in the fastest and most efficient way possible. In this class we are going to talk about efficiency in glass making and how best to get from point A: the furnace, to point B: the annealer, for our designs. We will spend a large amount of time studying the Italian method of cup making, also known by some as a pull tip cup. There will be a large focus on efficient gathering techniques which will be the cornerstone of this discipline. If you are looking to fast track your skill building, this class is for you! *pictured is Andrew getting his own "parkour" lesson from maestro Davide Fuin*
"INTRO TO GLASS CARVING" w/ Tom Liu WEDNESDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm: LEVEL: MOST LEVELS WELCOME STARTS APRIL 2nd (6 WEEKS) COST: $595 This course is designed as an introduction to using the lathe to decorate your glass. We will start with understanding the basic wheel shapes and their uses. We will progress quickly from flat glass to vessels of different shapes. We will gain confidence through practice and the goal is to appreciate the flexibility of lathework and explore what is possible. The last 2 weeks will revolve around each student designing and finishing a project of their choice. No cold working experience necessary. Some glassblowing experience is useful but not as important a requirement as enthusiasm. ~This class will have fewer spots available than our normal classes, so please plan to give a back up choice~
"OPTICS, TEXTURE, & PATTERN" w/ Zach Hermann THURSDAYS: 6:30-9:30pm: LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE/ ADVANCED STARTS APRIL 3rd (6 WEEKS) COST: $695 With an emphasis on exploration, this class will focus on the ethereal nature of looking through clear glass that has varying wall thickness and the optical and textural qualities of disrupting the surface. Traditionally, these optical and textural patterns are accomplished through the use of a mold. While we will have a chance to play with optic molds, we are also going to focus on non-traditional ways of achieving texture and patterns by using trails, bits, and hand tools. By discovering and inventing new ways to tamper with wall thickness we will create unique finished products nothing short of exquisite!
